Plaque buildup at the implant site, which harbors toxin-emitting bacteria, can lead to the rise of dental condition called Peri-implant mucositis. It is characterized by the inflammation of soft tissue around a dental implant that results in in irritation of the surrounding gum tissue. Apart from the plaque build-up, there are several other causes of peri-implant mucositis as well. If not controlled timely, it can lead to a condition called peri-implantitis, in which the patient might have to face the loss of the implant altogether. However, if you get in touch with a dentist before the condition gets worsened, the progression of peri-implant mucositis can easily be controlled.
