Redness, inflammation, and bleeding of the surrounding gum tissue are some of the most common symptoms of Peri-implantitis. The problem is that most of the times people are not aware of its occurring. If not controlled timely, it can lead to deepening of the periodontal pockets around the implant, exposure and visibility of the underlying implant threads, loosening of the implant itself, and pus discharging from the tissues around the implant. The most severe form of infection it can eventually lead to blockage of the lymph nodes on your neck leading to its swelling. If left untreatedit could lead to loss of the implant altogether! But, an experienced dentist can let you know about the options available to halt the progression of the disease and repair the damage caused by it as well.
