Dentists use bridges to replace a missing tooth. The teeth on either sides of the missing tooth are used for providing support to the bridge. Multiple appointments may be required before the bridge is placed. The first appointment typically involves the doctor taking an impression of the missing toot in the form of a mold. The mold is used for preparing a temporary bridge. This is followed by preparing the teeth on either side of missing tooth so they are able to support the bridge. Then, a second impression of the teeth is taken once the neighboring teeth are ready. This impression is used by dental labs to prepare the final bridge. As the bridge is undergoing preparation, the doctor provides patients with a temporary bridge. Once the restoration is finished, the temporary bridge is removed; replaced by the permanent one.
