The visual notches that appear on the teeth where the crown and root meet are called as non-carious cervical lesions. These lesions appear due to loss in tooth structure below the gum line, which is often caused by forces other than decay. Researches have shown that these lesions can be caused primarily because of abrasions (reduction in tooth material due to aggressive and improper tooth brushing) and abfractions (creation of notches in the teeth as a result of too much grinding and clenching). Based on the cause, and damage done to the tooth, a dentist can recommend you the best restorative procedure to get rid of these non-carious cervical lesions.
