Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a sleeping disorder in which breathing stops and starts. Its symptoms can include daytime sleepiness, irritability, depression, memory loss, anxiety, high blood pressure, gastric reflux, and headaches. Episodes where breathing stops can occurs up to a hundred times in one evening. The duration of periods can range from five seconds to five minutes at a stretch. When breathing stops, flow of oxygen is restricted to brain and heart. The increase in stimulation and heart rate causes the body to wake momentarily. Such disrupted sleeping patterns cause exhaustion and drowsiness in patients. Leaving this condition untreated for long periods can put strain on the heart and brain. All this can cause poor sleep quality eventually leading up to health complications. Those complications can include heart diseases, mood disorders, daytime drowsiness, and even strokes.
