Gingival recession is a condition where roots and teeth are exposed as gums start pulling away from teeth. The situation is a slow process and goes unidentified unless detected by a professional. A lot of factors can contribute in its development. Gingivitis is the commonest cause which is marked by buildup of bacterial deposits and hardened calculus beneath the gum line. It slowly keeps on eroding gum tissues. In addition to that, improper flossing, tooth brushing, or applying too much force can also damage the gum tissues leaving the roots exposed and susceptible to harm. Hormonal changes and genetics are other factors that can contribute to this condition. Early detection and cure of gingival recession is important to minimize the damage to gums and teeth. The underline structure begins to damage at accelerate pace when the roots become exposed. IF left untreated or a long time, it can result in the loss of affected teeth.
