An inlay can be a better way of repairing a cavity than a regular filling. Materials like composite resin, gold, metal and ceramics are used for making inlays. The process of getting one begins with the doctor first taking an impression of the tooth to create a temporary inlay. This is followed by the removal of decayed portion so that area could be prepared for procedure. After that, another impression is taken once the tooth is prepared to put the temporary inlay in. In the meantime final restoration is prepared by the lab technicians. Lastly, temporary inlay is removed and replaced by final restoration. Once the process is finished, the tooth is now free from decay and is back to its optimal functioning and natural strength.
